Description:
In November 2008, AEG and its partners, Brener International Group and Golden Boy Promotions, owners of the Houston Dynamo MLS team, hired ICON Venue Group to determine the feasibility of designing and building a stadium for a fixed $75 million budget. Not only would the study determine if building a stadium for the stated budget was possible, it would allow the ownership group to seek public approval and secure project financing. Ultimately, the package enabled the ownership group to seek construction financing and advance the project to a point where feasibility is confirmed. On February 5, 2011, ground was officially broken and the Dynamo played their first game in the new stadium on May 12, 2012. The stadium is located in downtown Houston, within walking distance of Minute Maid Park, the George R. Brown Convention Center, and the Toyota Center. In addition to soccer games, the new stadium will host Texas Southern University football, concerts, boxing matches, and more.
