Phase One

The renovation of BMO Field was carried out in two phases over two years. The first phase, which finished in May 2015, included construction of an 8,400-seat upper bowl on top of the east grandstand, bringing capacity up to over 30,000. This phase also saw the addition of a continuous concourse level and kitchen, and enhancements to washrooms, concessions, and executive VIP spaces.

Phase Two

Prior to the second phase, it was officially announced that the Canadian Football League’s (CFL) Toronto Argonauts would be playing their home matches at BMO Field. For this conversion, the seats in the north stand were reconfigured while the first seven or eight rows in the south stand were converted into retractable, removable seats. The renovations in this phase also included a full-size canopy covering all seats with the exception of the North grandstand and a new sound and lighting system. These upgrades brought BMO Field on par with other premiere MLS venues and made Canada's first soccer specific stadium a destination on an international scale.
