Description: 1,500,000 sf expansion project Owner: City and County of Denver Architect: Fentress – Bradburn Architects CM/GC: Hensel Phelps Construction Company Project Cost: $308,000,000 Status: Completed - December, 2004
Tim Romani, President and CEO of ICON Venue Group, served as the Principal-in-Charge, and Tom Noonan served as Project Executive for the $308 million Colorado Convention Center Expansion project representing the City and County of Denver. Open in December 2004, this 1.5 million sq. ft. expansion makes Denver’s convention center the 15th largest in the nation.
The convention center expansion doubled the size of the main exhibit hall to 600,000 sq ft, increased the capacity of meeting rooms to 100,000 sq ft and added two ballrooms of 50,000 and 35,000 sq ft. The expansion additionally brought the total lobby space to 76,000 sq ft and created a new 5,000-seat lecture hall. The finished Convention Center gave the city of Denver a total of 2.4 million sq ft of convention space under one roof, along with a new 360,000-sq-ft, 1,000-space parking garage on three levels.
Additional elements included a larger full-service kitchen, approximately 30 new loading docks - for a total of 60 - a pedestrian bridge between the convention center and the performing arts complex to the north and flexibility for future expansion of the meeting rooms and ballrooms.
