On June 3, 2010 the City of Mesa announced an initiative to provide financing for the construction of a baseball spring training facility for the Chicago Cubs. ICON Venue Group was hired to represent the Chicago Cubs and work in conjunction with City and Cubs officials throughout activation, design and construction of the complex that includes a $54M stadium, $22M worth of player development facilities and $23M of related infrastructure.

On February 12, 2014, the Chicago Cubs and City of Mesa dedicated the completed Cubs Park, which features a state-of-the-art ballpark, two-story player development facility and an enhanced Riverview Park. The development is the first and largest of its kind in the Cactus League. The player development areas include a clubhouse facility for all major and minor league operations, six practice fields, an agility field, in-field diamond, batting cages and pitching mounds.
