Description:

In March, 2010, ICON was hired by the Katz Group to generate a Preliminary Development Plan (PDP) to build a new NHL arena for the Edmonton Oilers. The PDP contained a Detailed Arena Program, Schedule, Budget, Site Plan, Conceptual Layouts, Preliminary Schematic Floor Plans, Cross Sections, and an Arena Massing Model. The PDP enabled the Katz Group to seek a formal plan to move forward with funding and building the new arena, which was ultimately approved by the City of Edmonton.

In 2012, The City of Edmonton and Edmonton Arena Corporation selected ICON Venue Group as project manager for the new arena in downtown Edmonton. The 18,559-seat facility will replace Rexall Place, the third oldest arena in the NHL. The design will integrate the $480 million arena with an adjacent $7 million light rail transit station and a $15 million outdoor pedway that provides event space and a pedestrian connection with adjacent development. Plans also include a $21 million 1,000-seat community rink attached to the arena, an overpass and a large $53 million Winter Garden providing a climate controlled event venue that the public can use.
