Description: 18,500-seat sports / entertainment arena Team: Phoenix Coyotes (NHL) Arizona Sting (NLL) Owner: The Ellman Companies Architect: Populous CM/GC: Perini Building Company Cost: $200,000,000 Status: Completed - December 26, 2003

The Phoenix Coyotes were formerly housed in a downtown venue built for basketball and suffered through its early seasons in an arena where only two thirds of the seats had sight lines to both goals. ICON led a renaissance of sports development in Glendale overseeing a new, hockey-first, multipurpose arena along with the site development for the surrounding 200-acre Westgate mixed-use entertainment district. The project was completed on schedule and on budget with a final construction cost of only $113 million or $187/sf. The extraordinary project delivery success of the Arena instilled confidence in the City of Glendale and enabled the subsequent construction of the adjacent University of Phoenix Stadium, home of the NFL Arizona Cardinals, and a sports and entertainment metropolis was born.

We knew that ICON was an expert program management firm when we hired them for our new arena project. They became a fully integrated extension of our organization and the leader of our project development team. It was seamless and it proved to be a winning combination.
