Basically they (ICON) have an expertise we don’t have. They’re there to represent us and to get this arena built so it is the best arena we can have.
Description: 18,500-seat NHL Arena Team: Pittsburgh Penguins (NHL) Owner: Sports & Exhibition Authority (SEA) Developer: Pittsburgh Penguins Architect: Populous CM/GC: PJ Dick / Hunt Joint Venture Budget: $321,000,000 Status: Completed – August, 2010
The Pittsburgh Penguins retained ICON to provide project management services for their new $321 million arena. ICON’s experience representing both public and private sector clients proved beneficial in fostering the critical relationship between the Sports and Exhibition Authority (SEA) and the Penguins. The project team guided the new PPG Paints Arena (formerly CONSOL Energy Center) to become the first LEED Gold sports arena ever built and blazed a new trail in sustainable design strategies for all other new sports venues. In its first year of operation, the venue became the “Best NHL Arena” in the sixth annual Sports Business Journal readers’ survey and the “New Concert Venue of the Year” award by Pollstar.
