Description: NHL Training Facility Owner: University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) in partnership with the Pittsburgh Penguins Client: Pittsburgh Penguins Architect: BBH Design CM / GC: PJ Dick Status: Completed - August 14, 2015

ICON Venue Group was the client representative for the Pittsburgh Penguins in its partnership with UPMC to develop a “first-of-its-kind” sports performance center and NHL practice rink. The UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex is the main training center for the Pittsburgh Penguins and has 50,000 sf of clinical space for world-class orthopedic and therapy programs for injury treatment and prevention. Staffed with doctors, it also includes a concussion clinic, imaging, physical therapy and sports performance training.

The 180,000 sf facility was designed to allow for the integration of the training facility with UPMC’s performance and medical uses.  When the new rink is not being used by the Penguins, it is open to the public for skating and other events.
