Pepsi Center celebrates anniversary

It seemed appropriate that it was a windy day yesterday as members of the Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, Pepsi Center, and Kroenke officials, the mayor, governor and others celebrated the 10-year anniversary of the Pepsi Center.

After all, it seemed like the years just breezed by.

“All I can say is, ‘Wow, it’s been 10 years.’” said Tim Romani, who, when he was with Ascent Arena Company, original owners of the Pepsi Center, was in charge of design and construction of the arena. “I don’t know about the rest of you, but I don’t feel 10 years older.”

Tim Romani to Speak at Pepsi Center's 10th Anniversary Celebration

On September 30th, 2009, Tim Romani will speak at the 10th Anniversary Celebration of Pepsi Center and participate in the unveiling of The Plaza of Fame. Romani will join Colorado Governer Bill Ritter, Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper among other Pepsi Center Executives at the podium.

ICON Celebrates Topping Off Ceremony at Consol Energy Center
August 13, 2009

Consol Energy Center celebrated its “topping off” on August 13th when a steel beam bearing hundreds of signatures was fitted into the frame supporting its roof. The event celebrated the last piece of steel necessary to support to the future home of the Pittsburgh Penguins. The event was attended by several hundred workers and dignitaries including Penguins owner/chairman Mario Lemieux, Penguins CEO Ken Sawyer, Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato, and Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl.

ICON Venue Group Hired by Turkish Basketball Federation

August 10, 2009

The Turkish Basketball Federation (TBF) has engaged ICON Venue Group to provide advice and oversight of Dome and Arena renovations in preparation for the final rounds of the 2010 FIBA World Basketball Championship. ICON will assist the TBF in assuring that two of the host venues, the Sinan Erdem Dome and the Ankara Arena, are designed and outfitted according to FIBA requirements. The goal of the TBF is to utilize ICON’s experience on similar venues to create the highest possible quality experience for basketball fans during the August 2010 Championships.

O2 World Wins Immobilienaward Berlin 2009

O2 World recently won the Immobilienaward Berlin 2009 (Real Estate Award Berlin 2009), which recognizes outstanding contributions in the field of architecture within the city of Berlin. On June 8, 2009, Mrs. Regula Lüscher, Senatsbaudirektorin (Senate Building Director), handed the award over to Mr. Michael Kötter, Director Real Estate Development, Anschutz Entertainment Group, during the award ceremony which took place at the Admiralspalast in Berlin.

New Scoreboard Designed With Fans in Mind

The new Ford Center scoreboard will be one of the biggest and best in the NBA. It weighs 46,000 pounds, is 31 feet tall and 35 feet wide and features a dozen video panels as well as an LED ring. Indeed, the new Ford Center scoreboard will be one of the biggest and best in the NBA.

… The Thunder did fairly extensive research for its new scoreboard by enlisting the services of consultant Jim Cronin of ICON Venue Group, a Colorado-based sports and entertainment venue development and operations services firm, and through various field trips made by the Thunder’s executive team.

Three firms expected to get nod for projects in Portland
Sports Business Journal, April 20, 2009

Three firms consulting on upgrades to accommodate a new MLS team at PGE Park in Portland have the inside track on permanent roles.

Ellerbe Becket will most likely design and Turner Construction build improvements to retrofit the minor league baseball facility for soccer, said Merritt Paulson, owner of the MLS expansion Timbers and the Class AAA Pacific Coast League’s Beavers.

…ICON Venue Group will probably serve as the owner’s representative for both projects, Paulson said. All three companies worked for the past year with Paulson in an unofficial capacity to develop a plan that works for both teams, he said. Icon Venue Group has been a stadium developer for six MLS teams.

Making a Connection

The €165 million O2 World arena promised a future filled with sports matches, concerts and other live entertainment in an otherwise sputtering section of Berlin, Germany, on a short distance from where the Berlin Wall once sharply divided the city. But when it came to selling local stakeholders on the value of the arena, the project ran into a wall of opposition. …Perseverance paid off. After seven years of planning and two years of construction, the 16,000-seat arena opened on 10 September 2008.

A sign outside the arena’s main lobby acknowledges the people who contributed in some way to O2 world. “These projects don’t get built by one or two people. Everybody from the leading sponsor to the guy who delivered cement out to the construction site was named,” said William T. Mannarelli, Senior Vice President of ICON Venue Group.

The Sandy, Utah City Council honored ICON Venue Group with the Summit Awards for Outstanding Construction Management on January 27 for its work on the Rio Tinto Stadium project. The awards are given to businesses that contract with the city in a variety of services. The purpose of the awards is to recognize businesses that have exceeded the expectation for services on behalf of the citizens. Consol Energy Center on its way up

Team Trib is pleased to provide this first of many exclusive updates on progress being made at the site of Pittsburgh's new arena, Consol Energy Center, set to open for the Penguins' 2010-11 season. This month, ICON Venue Group senior vice president Marc Farha talks about ... steel:

The new arena, set to open for the 2010-11 NHL season, is "right on schedule," according to Farha — and this current steel phase is as important as important gets. "The steel is the driver on the project at this point in the project and will be throughout until late fall of this year," Farha said as he guided the Tribune-Review through an exclusive site tour. "Many construction activities will immediately follow once the steel is in place, so it will open up a lot of work by other trades (sub-contractors)." [More…]
