Description: NHL training center renovationOwner: AEG Architect: GenslerCM/GC: McCormick Construction Project Cost: $2,772,000 Status: Completion - September 2014

The Toyota Sports Center is a practice facility for the Los Angeles Kings, Los Angeles Sparks and the Los Angeles Lakers. ICON served as the Owner’s Representative on the recent renovation of areas used by players, coaches and hockey operations in the facility. The 15,000 sf renovation was completed in two phases, so the work could be coordinated during the team’s ongoing championship season.

The goal of the project was to increase and enhance the player’s areas while taking advantage of the Southern California climate, which is a rare asset for an NHL team. The goal was realized by relocating the weight room to the second floor and by introducing two large operable skylights, two glazed rollup doors on the North elevation of the facility and a new internal stair which connected the weight room to the lounge below. The new floor plan achieved a 12% square footage shift from what was previously underutilized office space to player’s weight room, lounge and support areas. The players’ changing and video screening rooms were also upgraded to finish levels fitting the caliber of the end user.
